Founded upon collections assembled over more than a century, this museum of
art and horology collects, preserves and presents two quite different, but
complementary, themes. One is of the changing artistic tastes and achievements
of local people; the other is of the development of timekeeping in
Britain, Europe and America. Together, these collections trace the creative
genius of the artist, the inventor and the craft worker across the centuries.
They also follow the changing needs and fashions of people who were able to
own and use such exceptional possessions.
Today, within a carefully restored eighteenth-century mansion, visitors can
discover a beautiful and intricate world of art and science. Using real evidence
from watercolors to watches, the Manor House Museum offers the serious
scholar and the casual visitor, of any age, an opportunity to enjoy a fascinating
history with displays that are intriguing, informative and fun.
