The Society was founded in 1960, to encourage an interest in the history of Bury St Edmunds and surrounding area. We hold regular meetings with guest speakers, and organise occasional visits to places of historical interest.
We are guardians of the Spanton Jarman collection of glass photographic negatives; a unique record of the town and local area in earlier times, and have ambitious plans to make the collection available online.
