The ruins of the WEST FRONT of the
abbey had been converted into houses by
the time of the Restoration, and a little later
the Jesuit Mission to Suffolk was using part as
headquarters. By 1863 SAMSON'S TOWER was
converted into the Probate Registry. In 1993 the
tower was opened as an exhibition centre
interpreting the abbey and environs.
