It is not known exactly when
the GREENE KING BREWERY
opened at the Westgate Street site. The company's
beer mats show the date 1799, the date
above the head office door is 1800.
However, 1872 was definitely the date
of the merger with the St Edmund
Brewery run by Fred King.
